Record-Setting Summer Induction

Post date: Sep 10, 2020

Erielhonan Lodge held its summer induction weekend on August 21-22 at Beaumont Scout Reservation. It was the first in-person event hosted by the lodge since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The lodge leadership succeeded in running a safe, socially-distant, fun event offering Ordeal, Brotherhood, and Vigil honor-level inductions. Our final numbers were:

  • 117 Ordeal Honor candidates inducted

  • 52 members sealed their Brotherhood Honor

  • 14 members were recognized with the Vigil Honor

Lodge officers ran the weekend with a skeleton crew of ceremonialists and event staff. Ordeal and Vigil candidates arrived on Friday and spent the night camping along. Brotherhood candidates came out for several hours on Saturday. Everyone was assigned to a small group of 10 or fewer members, mostly from their home unit or county.

Even with Covid restrictions, members performed 652 hours of service at camp, including work on the human foosball court the lodge is building across from the Augustus Training Center.

While the lodge would have preferred a lodge-wide event, leaders didn't feel that approach to be prudent given the health alert levels in northeast Ohio.

The lodge will use the successful model to hold another induction weekend on October 16-17 at Camp Wyandot on Firelands Scout Reservation. Registration is open for Ordeal and Brotherhood honor level candidates at https://scoutingevent.com/440-OAFallFellowship.
